The 2026 Washington Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition may be exactly the opportunity you've been waiting for.
This is not just another pitch competition. It is jointly organized by the U.S.-Sino Innovation Alliance (USIA), the Chinese Association for Science and Technology-DC (CAST-DC), and the Sino-American Pharmaceutical Professionals Association-DC (SAPA-DC), together with dozens of professional associations, university alumni networks, investment firms, and government supporters across the Greater Washington area. It is a complete innovation-and-entrepreneurship service system spanning project sourcing, expert mentorship, startup training, pitch presentations, live judging, and investment matchmaking.
Built on the core principle of "innovation-driven, entrepreneurship-empowered, collaboration for mutual success," our goal is clear: to build a bridge connecting technology, capital, industry, and international markets — helping outstanding projects complete the full journey from technological innovation to commercial success.
When people think of startups and innovation, Silicon Valley or New York usually come to mind first. But Washington, D.C. is an underrated powerhouse.
It's not just the U.S. capital — it's a major global hub for science and technology innovation. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) are all headquartered here. World-class universities — Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland — surround the region. Amazon HQ2 has made its home here, and the BioHealth Capital Region is one of the most active life-sciences corridors in the country.
Biopharma, digital health, AI, cybersecurity, GovTech — Washington holds genuine, world-leading strength in all of these fields. In other words, this region isn't short on resources. What it needs is a bridge connecting great projects to those resources. That's exactly what the 2026 Washington Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition is here to build.
This year's competition is organized around four core tracks, shaped by global tech trends, industry upgrading, and the needs of U.S.-China innovation cooperation:
🧬 Biomedical Track — innovative drugs, medical devices, digital health, precision medicine, healthcare & wellness innovation, and more
🤖 Tech & AI Track — artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, semiconductors, advanced materials, new energy, environmental technology, and more
🎓 Student Innovation Track — open to undergraduates, graduate and doctoral students, recent graduates, and even high school innovation teams, with no restriction on project direction
💼 Business Innovation Track — fintech, culture & creative industries, education & training, professional services, food & retail, and other new consumer models
Whether your project is at the proof-of-concept stage, in prototype development, already on the market, or scaling fast — as long as it demonstrates innovation, commercial value, and growth potential, you're welcome to apply. Tech & AI Track — Dr. Victor Wang (serial entrepreneur and corporate executive; Ph.D. in Systems Reliability Engineering, Johns Hopkins University), James Bo (Founder & President, International Applied Technology Research Institute / IATRI; bestselling author)
Student Innovation Track — Attorney Xiaohui Yu (Founding Partner, Law Offices of Yu & Associates; specializing in business immigration and corporate transactions), Dr. Yingxia Yang (Global Energy Infrastructure team, Google Data Centers; educated at Tsinghua, Harvard Kennedy School, and MIT)

The competition follows a complete process: Application → Project Screening → Preliminary Review → Startup Mentorship → Final Pitch → Industry Matchmaking.
The finals will be held live at the Bethesda Marriott (5151 Pooks Hill Rd, Bethesda, MD 20814), in a pitch-competition format: project presentations, team introductions, judges' Q&A, and scoring.
The competition offers over $9,000 in total cash awards:
🏆 Grand Prize — 1 winner — $2,000
🥈 First Prize (Excellence Award) — 3 winners — $1,000/project
🥉 Excellence Award — 5 winners — $500/project
🎖 Finalist Award (Potential Award) — multiple winners — $100/project
(The number of awards may be adjusted by the judging committee based on the final applicant pool.)

The competition welcomes a far broader range of applicants than you might expect:
Startups, growth-stage tech companies, university student entrepreneurship teams, research institutes, professors and researchers, corporate innovation units, overseas entrepreneurial teams, U.S.-China tech collaboration projects, international innovation teams, and any other company or individual with an innovative business model — all are welcome to apply.

No U.S. company registration required — teams without an incorporated entity, student projects, and overseas projects can all apply
Early-stage projects welcome — from concept, to R&D, to commercialization, all stages are eligible
Individual applicants welcome — solo founders may apply, though forming a full team is recommended

Session 2 | Pitch Skills & Team Q&A (September 16, 7:00–9:00 PM ET) Learn how to present your project clearly and persuasively — how to structure a pitch, highlight your competitive edge, and handle judges' questions on the spot.
Both sessions will be held online and are open to all registered teams. Participation details will be sent out closer to each session.
